Giizis Energy Microgrid

A Canadian first, this fully integrated solar-diesel-microgrid system will offset approximately 30% of Kiashke Zaaging Anishinaabek’s (KZA) diesel fuel use. The system consists of a 360kW solar array, 500kWh battery storage, and, microgrid controller to ensure the greatest penetration of solar energy into the diesel system. The project was a collaborative effort between KZA, Ontario Power Generation, HydroOne Remotes, AllTrades Contractors, ABB, and several other partners. This project will be 100% owned by KZA.

Lumos Energy supported KZA throughout the entire development process - managing partners, ensuring the community’s needs were prioritized, and aiding KZA in navigating funding and permits needed for a successful project.
