Purpose & Leadership

Lumos Energy seeks reflect and ingrain Indigenous leadership in the transition to a clean energy future. We are working to accelerate the development of clean energy and ventures in a way that creates the greatest value for Aboriginal communities, partners, and investors. 

Projects

Lumos Energy has catalyzed Indigenous clean energy projects in almost all of Canada’s provinces and territories. Chiefs and Councils, Tribal Groups and Aboriginal Economic Development Corporations seek out Lumos Energy’s innovative clean energy services for community energy planning, and business-oriented advice for project partnership negotiations and financing, including economic development strategies with impact.

INNAVIK HYDRO PROJECT

This 7.5 MW run-of-river hydro project will replace all diesel fuel for electricity generation and space/water heating in the community over the next 40+ years.

OKIKENDAWT HYDRO PROJECT

The Okikendawt Hydro Project is a clean energy initiative of the Dokis First Nation of Ontario developed in partnership with Hydromega Services Inc.

GIIZIS ENERGY MICROGRID PROJECT

Canada’s first fully integrated solar-diesel-microgrid will be fully owned by Kiashke Zaaging Anishinabek (Gull Bay First Nation) and will displace about 30% of their diesel use.

Lumos’ work is guided by a core set of values that emphasize Indigenous leadership, community, and impact. Based on these values, Lumos delivers a strategic set of services for moving clean energy projects forward. These services include energy planning, community engagement, and partnership structuring.

Team

Lumos maintains a flexible team structure that can look to the long-term, working with Indigenous communities on clean energy projects. We have a strong core team and a trusted set associates and affiliate organizations (like the Delphi Group). This structure ensures we have the expertise to help communities realize their clean energy ambitions.

CHRIS HENDERSON - PRESIDENT

Chris is Canada’s pre-eminent Clean Energy Advisor to Aboriginal communities. He advises Chiefs and Councils, Tribal Groups and Aboriginal Economic Development Corporations on how to effectively secure and leverage partnership positions in clean energy projects across Canada. His book, Aboriginal Power, was published in 2013.
